CRATHERN MACHINERY GROUP is the world leader in the production of machinery for the manufacturing of rigid and transparent plastic boxes, photo album, photo album pages, game boards, puzzles, sample boards, binders, hard book covers, slipcases, point-of-purchase displays, and label laminated products. We offer a range of machinery from semi-automatic sheet fed machines through high-speed roll fed systems. Our systems are modular, so if components are needed immediately they can be delivered while other components can be added easily at a later time. We also custom design systems specifically for product line applications. At Crathern Machinery Group we may manufacture machines, but we specialize in helping our customers get the most from them. Crathern Machinery Group is an international machinery resource. We have manufacturing plants in the United States. A network of representatives and agents in all major markets of the world support our customer's needs. COMPANY HISTORY Crathern Machinery Group is the merger of three separate companies; Crathern Engineering, Crathern & Smith, and Perondi s.r.l. Crathern & Smith’s origin goes back to Stokes & Smith Co., the inventor, developer, and manufacturer of the original automatic rigid box wrapping machine in 1901. Stokes & Smith was acquired by the FMC Corporation in 1946 and became a part of its packaging machinery division. In 1952 FMC also acquired the Kingsbury & Davis Company of Contoocook, NH, the originators of the quadruple staying machine. In 1983, Crathern & Smith acquired the Rigid Box, Transparent Box, and Laminating product lines from the packaging machinery division of FMC. At the same time, it merged with Beuerle & Crockett, Inc., a high quality rigid paper box making machine rebuilder and, shortly thereafter, purchased the rigid box making machinery business of the New Jersey Machine Corporation. Crathern Engineering was established in 1966 in Contoocook, New Hampshire. During 2004 the business relocated to Manchester, New Hampshire which is the corporate headquarters for Crathern Machinery Group.
